Privacy & Your Information

The short version

This is a small, non-commercial family history project. We ask for only what we need in order to reply to you and to run the surname study, we never sell or rent your information, and we do not share it except where you have asked us to. If anything here is unclear, please just ask.

What we collect

We only collect the details you choose to send through the forms on this site:

• When you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, and message.
• When you subscribe to updates, we receive your email address.
• When you apply for a sponsored DNA test, we receive the details you enter on that form, such as your name, email, location, and known family history.

We do not collect anything you have not typed in yourself, and none of the forms are required in order to read the site.

How we use it

We use your information only to reply to you, to send the updates you asked for, and to carry out the Cisneros surname study, for example by matching family lines and coordinating DNA testing. That is all.

What we never do

We never sell, rent, or trade your information, and we never share it with advertisers. We do not pass it to anyone else except when it is necessary to do the very thing you asked for, such as arranging a DNA test you have applied for.

About the DNA itself

The genetic testing behind this project is carried out through the Cisneros Surname Project at FamilyTreeDNA. Your actual DNA sample and results are held by FamilyTreeDNA under their own privacy and consent terms, which you agree to directly with them. As the volunteer administrator, I only see the results you have chosen to share within the project, and I treat them with care.

Keeping it, and removing it

We keep what you send only for as long as it is useful to the project, and you can ask us to delete your details at any time. If you would like to see what we have, correct it, or have it removed, just write to us and we will take care of it.
